World War II

World war II or the second world war, was a global military conflict which involved a majority of the world’s nations, including all of the great powers in around world, organized into two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. The war involved the mobilization of over 100 million military personnel, making it the most widespread war in history. Over 70 millions people, the majority of them civilians were killed, making it deadliest conflict in human history. The total financial cost of the war is estimated at about US$ 1 trillion, making it the most expensive war in history.
The starting date of the war is generally held to be September 1939 with the German invansion of Poland and subsewuent declaration war on Germany by the United Kingdom, France and the British dominions. The allies were victorious, with Germany surrendering on may 7, 1945 and Japan on august 15, after the atomic bombings of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
